Laurie Desjardins, creator of ZenSticks and founder of My Brothers' Keeper Animal Sanctuary, will be appearing on Living In Style to demonstrate ZenSticks after the meditation tools dazzled celebrities at the Oscars party and the NAACP Image Awards. Laurie will talk about how ZenSticks are created and the relaxation techniques used with the meditation tools to help eliminate stress.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Living In Style is a 30-minute weekend news magazine show that discusses everything from gardening and travel to home decorating and fitness. The show was taped March 29 and will be aired throughout April. On the show, Laurie will be explaining the benefits of meditation using ZenSticks as a relaxation tool, and demonstrating how these unique meditation tools actually work with her own orange, white, and brown Cocobolo wood Zen Stick.
Highlighting ZenSticks
In addition to Laurie's Cocobolo, the show will feature several ZenSticks made from other exotic hardwoods, including Bocote, Zebrawood, Purpleheart, Olive Wood, and Koa. Laurie will also be showcasing a lustrous black and white ebony stick for the show.
These meditation tools are made from eight different varieties of exotic hardwoods from around the world, but several steps must be completed before a Zen Stick is completed. After the wood has been eco-friendly harvested, Laurie uses jeweler's tools to sand and polish the wood to a warm, iridescent sheen that brings out detail in the wood's grain. The completed Zen Stick is then sheathed in a cloth carrying case made from a retired Japanese obi.
Laurie's Cocobolo
Each Zen Stick is an elegant and beautiful meditation tool, but Laurie's personal Zen Stick caught the eye of several stars in Hollywood. "I had to playfully wrestle it out of their hands-there was no way they were getting it!" laughed Laurie. "Though David Carradine might have been able to talk me out of it. With his magestic stature and martial arts expertise, he wasn't going to get an argument out of me, but he was kind enough to let me have my Cocobolo back anyway."
Every Zen Stick is unique, but you can see examples of the ZenSticks the stars were after. You can also order your own exotic meditation tool. Proceeds from every sale go to supporting the tigers in Laurie's care at My Brothers' Keeper Animal Sanctuary.
