Purpleheart: Deep purple, and usually reserved only for Veterans. It is a fairly light, but hard wood with tight, linear grains. From South and Central America. Macassar Ebony: Dark brown to black heartwood with swirling grain patterns and bands of yellow and/or golden brown. It is a very hard, very heavy wood. From Africa.
